First Day of School 2016

Swinging her new lunch bag

It’s the first day of school, and things are back to normal, or the new normal for Fall 2016.  Another summer has passed.  Another summer that was dominated by working on our house.  Another summer when I took Polina to the beach a whopping one time- for her birthday party.

Where did the time go?  How did I feel so busy yet not find time to take my daughter to the beach?  (Is that an oxymoron?)  How did I get swallowed up by minutia?  Being busy used to be a temporary state followed by a return to normalcy.  How did “being busy” become the status quo?

Happy Birthday, My Little 4 Year Old

Our home celebration with gluten free cake that I made to accommodate my husband. Choosing a color for the fireplace in the background is a work in progress.

Recently, Polina turned 4 years old.  She came into the world during the peak of the annual Perseids meteor shower on Sunday, August 12, 2012 at 5:39 am Pacific Time.  (For more information about that day from NASA, click here.)  My husband woke me up shuffling around on his way to bed, and I never went to sleep alone since.

She was born ready to come into the world.  I was surprised by how strong and alert she was.  Within 10 minutes of being born, she grabbed the scissors that were used to cut her umbilical chord.  There is a video of her playing tug of war over the scissors with the midwife. More

Scene from the Day- Painting Our House

painting model house

So we are not the best at picking paint colors, as evidenced by how many samples we have purchased over the past two years for various projects (at one time, I counted 79, and we have bought more since).  I envy people that can walk into a store, pick out a color or two, and get to painting within the week.  We have not been so fortunate.  To avoid disappointment, my husband built a model of our house using foam core from the dollar store and painted the sides various shades of green.  We settled on this one- La Fonda Territory Green by Valspar.  What do you think?
